HealthInsights aims to provide a collection of data visualizations that would help people who will soon become eligible for Medicare to consider whether or not they should sign up for coverage. The data will demonstrate the relationship between rates of Medicare participation and the rates among common causes of death.
The data comes from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services dataset which you can find by following the link (https://catalog.data.gov/dataset/nchs-leading-causes-of-death-united-states). The dataset contains the age-adjusted death rates and total number of deaths for each year (1999-2017) for the 10 leading causes of death in the United States broken down by state.
The data comes from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services dataset which you can find by following the link (https://catalog.data.gov/dataset/medicare-geographic-variation-by-national-state-county-73ba6). This dataset contains information on the percentage of the population enrolled in Medicare and total Medicare spending for each state. We can utilize this data in combination with the data on causes of death to determine whether there are certain causes of death that are more prevalent in states with low enrollment or low spending on Medicare.
